The ABC Social workers then followed up on the girls’ family situation and visited their mother. The Social workers realized how sick the mother truly was and took her to the Mathare Mental Hospital for proper treatment. She stayed in the mental hospital for over six months and was later discharged when her condition improved.

One day, in the year 2010 when Rose and Mary were visiting their mother in the slum with Thorunn, they discovered that their mother had just given birth to a girl a week earlier. ABC discovered that the mother, due to the pressures of poverty and her mental illness had abandoned the baby outside in the rain right after she was born. The baby thankfully was rescued by their aunt and ABC supported the aunt to care for the child. Rose´s baby sister Purity, was then provided a safe place at the ABC Kenya home. Although this family has been through hardship and suffering, the girls are now in an environment where they can overcome their circumstance they were born into. Currently all three sisters are attending school at ABC and are wonderful students with a great apt for learning.

There is always hope.
